Day 5 - Sunday Came Quick

As you can imagine, its Recovery Sunday. The family has organized an afternoon brunch in their countryside golf club; in typical Latin form, it lasted for hours! Being our last night in Barranquilla before heading back to the walled city, we try to find some classic Colombian food that the locals would enjoy. About 12 of us end up at Narcobollo (narco-what??? Are there drugs in the food?) where the cases of food look so foreign and inedible we are all questioning our staying power. But alas they have empanadas, patacones, tamales, and such so we stuff ourselves on a bunch of fried food and beer. Hector persuades us to try chicharrones…. Turns out I don’t like hard fried fat – go figure.
On the taxi ride home we stumble upon La Troja – a local watering hole with an outdoor band blaring cumbia tunes, hundreds of locals sweating and dancing in the street, bright yellow Aguila beer signs calling our name… “but I’m tired!”…. yeah lets go! Jeff & I jump out of the taxi and wander in – we may stand out against the sea of tanned, black haired Colombians, but we like beer and music too! For sure a lot of fun attempting at being a local instead of a tourist – we even contemplate getting a bottle of “something special” scotch at the table like everyone else but opt for beer instead. Our cover is given away when I turn into “snappyfish” tourist armed with my gigantic camera J Busted!
